His background spans AI and autonomy for combat systems, flight test, acquisition-relevant evaluation, technology transfer, and leadership of for-profit AI organizations that brought products to market.
A materials scientist and University of Tennessee faculty member, Gilbert leads research across functional materials, nanotechnology, thin films, magnetic and quantum systems, advanced characterization, and materials synthesis. His work bridges fundamental materials physics and mission-driven technology, with programs supported across federal science and defense organizations.
